Local-first software: You own your data, in spite of the cloud

Today’s cloud apps offer big benefits compared to earlier generations of software: seamless collaboration, and being able to access data from any device. Local-first software is different: because it keeps the primary copy of the data on the local device, there is never a need for the user to wait for a request to a server to complete. Local-first applications keep the primary copy of the data in files in each device’s local filesystem, so the user can read and write this data anytime, even while offline.
