Irene Triplett, 87, is the sole remaining person to receive a VA pension tied to Civil War service. Triplett is the sole surviving person to be receiving a Civil War pension from the VA. Triplett’s pension reflects a call Abraham Lincoln made at the conclusion of his Second Inaugural address, which was delivered in the final weeks of the Civil War.
