Research as a Stochastic Decision Process

In this post I will talk about an approach to research (and other projects that involve high uncertainty) that has substantially improved my productivity. Suppose you are embarking on a project with several parts, all of which must succeed for the project to succeed. This contrasts with the previous assumption that we only encounter failures at the end of a task.
