As Uber gears up for IPO, many Indian drivers talk of shattered dreams

Thanks to attractive cash incentives offered as Uber lured drivers in one of its biggest markets outside the United States, Raut’s monthly earnings jumped to $1,280. In a January 2017 company video, Uber drivers are seen entering a luxury hotel in northern Chandigarh city, where guards open their taxi doors and welcome them. An Uber spokesman told Reuters drivers were at the heart of its service and the company was committed to ensuring drivers get sustainable earnings, even though some were making less than they did three years ago.
