Created a fake account and Facebook still figured out who I am. How?

A few months ago, I deleted Facebook. Fast forward a few months and I’m working on a website project where a lot of our audience congregates on Facebook. The SCARIEST part is that many of these recommendations are people I wasn’t even friends with when I used to have a Facebook account (e.g. one of the tenants in my rental property as well as professional/career relationships).
