Typing them one by one is boring so people put the concrete dependencies (with hardcoded versions) in a file and then tell pip: “go read that file and install what’s in there”. For example, if pip can’t find a built version of the dependency you need, it will download the source and build it, basically running setup.py and hoping for the best. In any case, they decided that anybody that want to write their own tool to package should be able to do so, and therefore you need just another meta step to define which packaging system to use and which dependencies you need in order to build your stuff.

That is an important fact, because producing heat is easy for a nuclear reactor, but turning it into electricity requires turbines, steam and a power cycle that costs you 50 to 70% of the reactor’s output. Even small reactor cores can produce gigawatts of thermal energy… indeed, most of the cost of a nuclear reactor comes from the difficulty of containing the heat, not in producing it. Electricity produced using an MHD device or a gas turbine siphoning heat from the reactor can be used to further heat the CO2.

In addition, the punch cards themselves were manufactured and supplied only by IBM for IBM machines, and they were manufactured for specific uses. Recall how much of this, by design of the punch cards and tabulating machines, IBM would know.

Financial troubles have forced Maker Media, the company behind crafting publication MAKE: magazine as well as the science and art festival Maker Faire, to lay off its entire staff of 22 and pause all operations. But Dougherty is still desperately trying to resuscitate the company in some capacity, if only to keep MAKE:’s online archive running and continue allowing third-party organizers to license the Maker Faire name to throw affiliated events. The same generality that lets GPT2 create hilariously dadaist erotic fanfics about your friends also means it can do lots of less frivolous things: Fake reviews, inflammatory political messages (it loves to talk about Brexit) and other things the internet already has way too much of. The argument is that, using a technology such as GPT2, we aren’t engaging in a wholly new activity per se, but we are lowering the cost to generate convincing text.

Beyond that, the patent documents do lay out a case for disrupting traditional ‘hub-and-spoke’ commercial aviation models and offering improved efficiency in aircraft performance to, in turn, reduce inefficiencies in passenger air travel.
