Whole-body cryotherapy as adjunct treatment of depressive and anxiety disorders
In a recent study assessing blood serum concentrations of selected steroid hormones in professional football players subjected to WBCT, the authors suggested that it leads to a significant decrease in serum testosterone and estradiol, with no effect on dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate and luteinizing hormone levels. This study was based on the assessment of depressive and anxiety symptoms observed in a group of subjects exposed to WBCT compared with a control group. WBCT is considered effective if the proportion of patients with a positive response in the study group is significantly greater than in the control group.
