The Priest of Abu Ghraib
Joshua Casteel was 24 years old when he learned he would be sent to Iraq as an interrogator with the 202nd Military Intelligence Battalion. Casteel deployed to Abu Ghraib six weeks after the torture and abuse of prisoners was made public. A small publisher, Essay Press, had put out a short book by Casteel in 2008 titled Letters from Abu Ghraib, composed of selected emails he wrote to friends and family during his six-month deployment.
