China is preparing to limit the supply of rare earth metals crucial to many industries in the United States as their trade dispute intensifies, a commentary published in the People’s Daily newspaper warned on Thursday. China holds a strong monopoly on the global production and supply of rare earth metals. China is currently involved in more than 90 percent of the global production and supply of rare earth metals, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
