Cartesian doubt is radical and it has been raised by philosophers not just in connection with our knowledge of the external world, but also of the past, induction, and other minds. ; and (iii) are there any further questions that can be raised with respect to other minds beyond those associated with these two sceptical problems? While it may be the case that different considerations can give rise to an epistemological problem concerning other minds, on the whole what appears to have pre-occupied philosophers in the period under consideration (mid-twentieth century) was the question of solipsism, the question of whether I am alone in the universe.
