Passive funds took power away from investors

In much the same way that being part-owner of the local bike shop would give you the right to have a say on pay and incentives and hire and fire managers, being a shareholder gives you pretty much exactly the same tools for public companies. You can see from the chart below just how often the three biggest index funds voted with management – in the case of Vanguard an eye watering 98.3% of the time. We don’t think this is right and we passionately believe investors can do better which is why we’re building Matter – an index tracking fund that is as easy and cheap as any passive fund, but which takes your ownership seriously.
