Communal Harm-Reduction Norms

I’ve stepped in before when strangers are visibly super drunk to make sure someone is taking care of them, that they know any other people they might be with, etc. (How the other people react is useful information — if it’s a drunk girl with an older man and he gets mad that you’re talking to her, that’s valuable to know, for example. I am super grateful that my own early drinking took place around people who would cut me off when I got ridiculous, and do the annoying work of cajoling drunk me to drink water and go to bed. I am not always this person — sometimes I’m too intoxicated to be responsible for other people — but I always have someone around who I can alert if I’m not in a good state to step up myself.
