Uber data reveals motoring slower than walking in many cities

As well as London, Uber Movement Speeds has data from Uber drivers in New York City, Seattle, Cincinnati, and Nairobi. Uber said the release of the datasets–with more on the way–would help cities “solve complicated urban mobility challenges” including “isolating high bicycle injury corridors with high … speeds … where a city [might] invest in protected bicycle or traffic calming infrastructure.” “Speeds data helps planners and city officials evaluate the impact of infrastructure investments, understand where throughout the city congestion is occurring and analyze the street network,” says Emily Strand, head of public policy for Uber Movement.
