Samsung has advised owners of its latest TVs to run regular virus scans. ‘Pointless advice’
Samsung’s recent smart TVs run off a version of its proprietary operating system, Tizen, and often come pre-loaded with McAfee’s Security for TV anti-virus software. Samsung previously raised eyebrows about the security of its smart TVs, in 2015, when it warned customers not to discuss personal information in front of the displays as they could transmit it to third parties.

In this post I will present a C++ lock-free and API agnostic command buffer implementation that can be used for multi-threaded rendering and reducing overhead (state changes, depth sorting) on the main thread. It also includes a configurable draw key class (via bitfields), implementation of some basic GL commands and supports multiple material passes. Commands will be dispatched into one or more of the command buffers from multiple threads (main thread can also participate as it shouldn’t be idle waiting), after which you’ll have to wait until all commands are dispatched and it’s safe to sort and submit the commands (to the graphics driver) on the main thread:

Note that in some cases certain command buffers dont require frequent updates (for example the post processing command buffer) as they only need to be updated when something changes.

Well, Genius alleges that Google has been copying its lyrics for years and posting them directly on Google Search, thus preventing visitors from going to its own site. “We noticed that Google’s lyrics matched our lyrics down to the character,” Genius’s chief strategy officer Ben Gross told The Journal. The report notes that Google partnered with LyricFind in 2016, but the company’s chief executive Darryl Ballantyne told The Journal that it doesn’t source its lyrics from Genius, relying on its own content team for the lyrics.

In the paper published in the journals Optical Letters, the team noted that the proposed RAM operates at 10 Gb/s for both Write and Read functionalities at 6.2 dB and 0.4 dB power, respectively. “Optical random access memories (RAMs) have been conceived as high-bandwidth alternatives of their electronic counterparts, raising expectations for ultra-fast operation that can resolve the ns-long electronic RAM access bottleneck,” the team wrote in the paper. Even better performance is expected by resorting to higher-capacity optical memories with multiple memory cells which use the different wavelengths of light.

Luke Fischer, Uber Elevate’s head of flight operations, said it’s crucial to figure out how drone delivery will work in dense urban environments, where 68% of the world’s population is expected to live by 2050, with few easy access points like suburban backyards. “We don’t need to get drones direct to our customer, we just have to get it close,” he said Wednesday at the Uber Elevate conference in Washington, D.C.
Uber made a few initial test deliveries last month, going beyond visual line of sight from a McDonald’s to the campus of San Diego State University using an off-the-shelf AR200 drone.
