Several Linux phones are expected this year including Purism Librem 5 and Pine64 PinePhone. What made me write this post is an update from Purism comparing the boot time on Librem 5 running PureOS Linux distribution without specific optimizations yet, and HTC One Android smartphone. Librem 5 smartphone devkit takes 13 seconds to get to the lockscreen, while the Android phone takes over 40 seconds.

By using ‘smart’ devices, we have invited a vast network of big tech companies, advertisers, data brokers, governments, and more into our homes and pockets. These companies have been extracting our personal data without permission and making fortunes with it. If you don’t want to share personal data with a company, you shouldn’t have to.

Fischer’s videos are some of the best-documented instances of Holocaust denial, incitements to violence, and other extremist acts by far-right figures. Youtube isn’t the only outlet that has taken down Fischer’s videos: Facebook has also removed his footage in its sweep of “extremist” content. The alleged pogo stick rental company Cangoroo wants everybody to know that it’s not a prank. If the company’s promotional YouTube video is not a joke about the aspirations of startup marketing, an actual parody could hardly do better:

Sites like Crunchbase list Cangoroo as founded in January of this year. He also emphasizes that Cangoroo plans to expand to different kinds of vehicles in the future—but will not say what kind yet—raising the possibility that the pogo sticks are a seat-of-the-pants attempt at drawing attention to the company’s future endeavors.
