I have laughed in a knowing way to my husband that I could make some
real money in my town if I opened up needlework classes for kids who want to go to medical school. Now that my robot kids have gone to college I see the result of the hand skills they developed in my basement.

The Adafruit PyGamer Is a Brand New Maker-Friendly Handheld Console
The DIY and homebrew gaming scene has exploded in recent years, and a large part of the reason is that hardware for makers has become dramatically more versatile and affordable. One noteworthy device was the Pi GRRL, which was a Raspberry Pi-based handheld console reminiscent of the original Nintendo Game Boy. Now Adafruit is back with another great maker-friendly handheld called the PyGamer.

Using radio waves to detect what’s on the other side of a wall has been done before, but with sophisticated radar equipment and expensive antenna arrays. Elliptical Reasoning About Location

The time needed for a radio signal to travel from a transmitting antenna to a reflective object (here, a person) and back to a receiving antenna can be used to constrain the position of that object. Those measurements showed the amount of time it took for a radio signal to leave the transmitter, reach the person in the next room, and reflect back to the receiver—typically several tens of nanoseconds.

This sort of behavior does seem like an addiction, in the sense of a compulsive, regret-filled pursuit of transient pleasures that are harmful to both the individual and society. The important job, and the goal of my new book, The Age of Addiction: How Bad Habits Became Big Business, is to explain why that pattern of harmful behavior has become more conspicuous and varied over time. Some roads in the city centre have been closed off to private cars; others have been changed so that traffic can only flow in one direction. Still, early data show that pedestrian traffic in the city centre was up by 10% in the fourth quarter of 2018 over a year earlier, which suggests the reforms are working as intended.
