British man banned from US because of text to American girlfriend

A British man visiting his American girlfriend on a three-month holiday of a lifetime was locked in a cell for 24 hours and banned from the US for life after border officials found a text on his phone that read: “I am moving to be near you.” Isaac Roblett, 24, claims he was talking about spending three months with girlfriend Camila Iglesia under an ESTA permit in the text sent a month before his flight to Chicago, The Sun reports. “They went through my phone, all my messages, and found a message to my girlfriend which said ‘I am moving to be with you’,” Mr Roblett, from East Sussex, said.

Go is Google’s language, not the community’s

The good news is that Google and the Go core team do care (so far) about Go being a success in the outside world, not just inside Google, so they’re willing to work on pain points. You could ask if Go is Google’s language or the Go core team’s language, since Go’s direction is set and controlled by that small core team. However, at the moment I believe that most or all of the active Go core team is employed by Google, making the distinction impossibly to determine in practice (at least from outside Google).

Danone asked its 100k employees to help run a multinational company

In recognition of Danone’s need to reflect this new reality, Faber decided to hand a share to every one of the company’s 100,000 employees employed as of July 2018 (link in French.) In fact, over 80,000 staff took the survey, with 33,000 saying they wanted to be more involved in future discussions, and 2,000 volunteering to lead results analysis and feedback sessions (Danone said it was too early in the process to provide details about how employee engagement had actually been incorporated into its decisions.) Faber says it’s unlikely that heavily engineered foods will ever be part of Danone’s future.

African samurai: The enduring legacy of a black warrior in feudal Japan

And like the locals in Japan’s then-capital of Kyoto, he was awed by Yasuke’s height, build and skin tone, according to Thomas Lockley, the author of “African Samurai: The True Story of Yasuke, a Legendary Black Warrior in Feudal Japan.” “Yasuke was initially viewed as a source of entertainment as he was a novelty, but within a month he’d become a valued samurai and member of Oda’s entourage,” says Lockley. One portrays a wrestling match between a black man and a Japanese warrior, which Lockley assumes are Yasuke and Oda.

Gmail really wants me to say yes

Now I think black mirror a little, but occam’s razor still prefers incompetence to malice. Now this has entered the realm where G’s much-touted ML arm can’t deliver usable products and they’re employing dark UX patterns intentionally and by accident. My friends who 5 years ago wouldn’t care about consumer privacy still don’t, but they’re way more educated than they were – they can talk coherently about usability, filter bubbles, identity theft, negotiation risk, all the measurable impacts of a data-driven society dominated by free products built by data brokers.
