Boeing 737 Max Simulators Are in High Demand. They Are Flawed

When the Max was introduced, Boeing believed that pilots did not need experience on the flight simulators, and the Federal Aviation Administration agreed. In a tense meeting with the American Airlines pilots union after the crash, a Boeing vice president, Mike Sinnett, said he was confident that pilots were equipped to deal with problems, according to an audio recording review by The New York Times. [Before Ethiopian crash, Boeing resisted pilots’ calls for aggressive steps on 737 Max.]

I give it away to students for free, so if you know of one that might like it, send them here to get instructions: https://cph.opsdisk.com

This book is packed with practical and real world examples of SSH tunneling and port redirection in multiple realistic scenarios. It walks you through the basics of SSH tunneling (both local and remote port forwards), SOCKS proxies, port redirection, and how to utilize them with other tools like proxychains, nmap, Metasploit, and web browsers. Advanced topics included SSHing through 4 jump boxes, throwing exploits through SSH tunnels, scanning assets using proxychains and Metasploit’s Meterpreter, browsing the Internet through a SOCKS proxy, utilizing proxychains and nmap to scan targets, and leveraging Metasploit’s Meterpreter portfwd command.

Cisco’s Robbins juggles tariffs, ‘lumpy’ service providers and 5G

Cisco’s teams were scrambling after the Trump administration increased tariffs to 25% on $200 billion worth of Chinese products on Friday, but CEO Chuck Robbins downplayed the impact of the latest round of tariffs on Wednesday’s third quarter conference call. Here’s a rundown of some of the other areas that Robbins spoke about during the call:

In the third quarter, Cisco said enterprise revenue was up 9%, commercial revenue increased 5% and public sector revenue grew 10%. Cisco didn’t disclose the amount of reoccurring software revenue it made in the third quarter, but Robbins and Kramer said Cisco was on track or ahead of where it said it would be two years ago at a financial analyst conference.

What Ancient Romans Used Instead of Toilet Paper

What Ancient Romans Used Instead of Toilet Paper

The whole dramatic episode got me thinking, and for the next couple of hours, I pondered toilet paper and the cultural nature of bathroom routines. But instead of reaching for a roll of toilet paper, an ancient Roman would often grab a tersorium (or, in my technical terms, a “toilet brush for your butt”). As peculiar as personal hygiene practices in ancient Rome may seem to us, the historical fact is that many Romans successfully and sustainably used tersoria and washed their clothes in pee for several centuries—far longer than we’ve used toilet paper.

South Korean Government to Switch from Windows to Linux

The government will switch the operating system of its computers from Windows to Linux, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety said Thursday. The Interior Ministry said the ministry will be test-running Linux on its PCs, and if no security issues arise, Linux systems will be introduced more widely within the government. Before the government-wide adoption, the ministry said it would test if the system could be run on private networked devices without security risks and if compatibility could be achieved with existing websites and software which have been built to run on Windows.

The Strange History of Ransomware

The Strange History of Ransomware

These paradoxical facts, coupled with his lawyers’ later claims that Popp planned on donating his ransomware profits to alternative AIDS education programs, led some to conclude the doctor was actually some kind of crypto-anarchist Robin Hood trying to trigger reforms. Less than two weeks after unleashing the virus, Popp became unnerved while traveling back to the U.S. from a WHO seminar on AIDS in Nairobi, where news of the AIDS Trojan had been a hot topic. A recent ransomware lock screen demands bitcoins. It’s not the first time AIDS has been invoked as a metaphor to convey the destructive power of malware, but I’ve come to believe there is an intimate psychological link between ransomware in particular and the virus that first inspired its creation.

Foxconn Still Trying to Tap Dance Around Its Ever-Shrinking Wisconsin Promises

Foxconn Still Trying to Tap Dance Around Its Ever-Shrinking Wisconsin Promises

The state originally promised Taiwan-based Foxconn a $3 billion state subsidy if the company invested $10 billion in a Wisconsin LCD panel plant that created 13,000 jobs. Reports last fall detailed the ever-shrinking nature of the deal, highlighting how Foxconn was using nonsense to justify its failure to follow through, showing that while the company hadn’t built much of anything meaningful in the state, it was still routinely promising to deploy a “AI 8K+5G ecosystem” in the state to somehow make everything better. But according to locals in the state these supposed innovation centers are, you’ll perhaps be shocked to learn, still empty:

“One month after Yeung’s comments and promise of a correction, every innovation center in Wisconsin is still empty, according to public documents and sources involved with the innovation center process.
