Lokomotive: An engine to drive cutting-edge Linux technologies into Kubernetes

With that background, today we are announcing Lokomotive, a full-stack Kubernetes distribution with three overarching goals:

Lokomotive is a Kubernetes distribution inspired by CoreOS Tectonic and built to run atop Flatcar Linux. Like Tectonic, Lokomotive is a self-hosted Kubernetes, meaning the Kubernetes components run in containers managed by Kubernetes itself, taking advantage of Kubernetes’ built-in scaling and resiliency features. Cluster settings and Components are configured via declarative HCL-based configuration files ensuring a consistent, fully automatable cluster creation process and the ability to treat individual clusters as disposable, easily replicated deployment artifacts.

Radar for the Wrist

Radar for the Wrist

Some day you could just swipe right through the air above them thanks to miniaturized radar technology and its accompanying gesture recognition technology in development at imec, the Belgium-based R&D center. Imec’s radar chips operate at around 145 GHz, well above the bands used for car radar. “Gestures allow a lot of capabilities where screens are becoming too small for fine movements,” says Kathleen Philips, program director for IoT at imec.

Walking Away from the Product I Spent a Year Building

Walking Away from the Product I Spent a Year Building

I’ve decided it’s time to take a step back from building Level as a standalone alternative to Slack. The manifesto was the first step in validating that my idea had legs: make a bold statement about the problem (without too many specifics about the solution) and gather email addresses of people who wanted to join the movement. Small teams (who have a much easier time making the jump due to their size) didn’t seem that compelled by Level.

Salesforce enables modify all in all user profiles

This was admitted by a Salesforce representative

Edit 1: THIS IS NOT A JOKE – CHECK COMMENTS

This is a call to all to check PERMISSION SETS and PROFILES on ALL of their orgs. org:

It has been confirmed on mutliple orgs, spanning multiple shards (eu6, eu8, NA41, NA49 at least) that Salesforce has bugged out this morning and has given MODIFY ALL (so all permisisons) to literally EVERY SINGLE PROFILE in some orgs. CHECK ALL ORGS.

FatELF: Universal Binaries for Linux (2015)

FatELF lets you pack binaries into one file, seperated by OS ABI, OS ABI version, byte order and word size, and most importantly, CPU architecture. FatELF is a file format that embeds multiple ELF binaries for different architectures into one file. It’s up to the system to handle dynamic loading like it always does, once it finds the ELF record it wants to load inside a FatELF file.

Secret tracking device found in Navy email to Navy Times amid leak investigation

The Navy’s top spokesman, Capt. Greg Hicks, declined to comment on the email device targeting Navy Times but acknowledged that the Navy is conducting “an ongoing investigation into the unauthorized disclosure of information covered by a judge’s protective order.” Tim Parlatore, attorney for Gallagher, whose case is covered by the gag order imposed by Navy Judge Capt. Aaron Rugh, told Military Times he has filed a motion calling for, among other things, the case to be dismissed and a full investigation into the emails by neutral parties. On May 10, Air Force Lt. Col. Nicholas McCue, an attorney for Portier, received an email on his military computer system from Czaplak, also containing the unusual logo beneath the prosecutor’s signature.

Hacktivist attacks dropped by 95% since 2015

Hacktivist attacks dropped by 95% since 2015

Anonymous hackers were once breaching companies and government networks for various humanitarian or social causes, but according to IBM, the group’s name has now been tarnished by its involvement with politically-themed campaigns, which started around 2016, and which IBM says has turned away many of its members. This has led to the rise of the term “fake Anons” to describe Anonymous members either not associated with the group, or acting on personal agendas — seeing to promote various social or political propaganda, or profit from the Anonymous community financially. Their actions have caused many Anonymous members to distrust the group as a whole, and focus their efforts on something else other than hacktivism.
