Google doesn’t hire losers
At some point around (or maybe shortly after) the time when Google either IPO’d or started getting those awards for “Best Place to Work”, I remember people started talking about the company’s ~crazy~ interview process. While interviewing at these other places, I thought back on Google’s less “traditional” hires, and my team alone had me, someone with a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, someone who had been a practicing lawyer for 3 years, and of course a fair number of people who been recruited from half-way across the globe. The minor point I want to get across here is that if someone has Google (or any other ${BigTechCo}) on their résumé then it’s something to be interested in but you should also be asking about what led to that; God knows that even I was more than happy to fail the fuck out of anyone who wasn’t bringing a world class A-game to one of my 2 weekly interview slots, be they a Stanford kid or an actually respectable public school denizen.
